Mike Dollin
Mike Dollin
Name:Michael Dollin
Nomme De Guerre: The Sentinel (though this hasn’t caught on and he is generally nickname resistant). Sometimes Skip though whether a reference to his nominal “command”of the Saturday squad or a veiled attack on his Australian heritage is not clear.
Age: 39
Height:6’0" (1.83m)
Weight: 14+ stone (88kg +)
Batting Style:right hand slog, with latent if recently emerging stodge merchant tendencies.
Bowling Style: right arm generous- usually not risked in any circumstances save a requirement to feed the opposition runs though this task is more usually achieved with our regular attack.
Best Bowling:0.3 0-1 (victim- Slim)
Highest Batting Score:101* (SBCC), 103* (Belair Corinthians)
Bio: Despite being almost cripplingly disorganised himself is somehow Saturday fixture secretary and captain. Always relieved when the opposition turn up and he discovers he has actually booked 11 players for his team (not always achieved). Started playing again in 2000 with the Strategic Rail Authority and was recruited into North Southwark Churches CC in 2001. As the SRA was abolished and merged into the Department for Transport (leading to a career with DfT Dodgers CC) so too with weekend cricket as North Southwark became Belair Corinthians (rebranding exercise) then a merger (absorption) by South Bank CC in 2009. Now happily ensconced in a proper club which plays at a ground with sight screens and a bar looking over one’s humble origins in the park next door…As a captain does a passable impression of a hack journalist with regular match reports (always filled with parentheses) but also with conjunctions, which usually follow the same format as a casualty script e.g. “Fred was batting brilliantly, slashing the ball to all parts and looking invincible however he slapped a slow full toss to mid wicket and departed.” As most of the team’s chases follow the same script of disaster and disappointment this style suits.
